| Holyrood
is an 11-19 comprehensive community school with a successful and expanding
Sixth Form Centre. We offer an extensive range of learning
opportunities for academic, personal and social development. In
partnership with CRESTA (Chard Recreational, Educational Sports Trust
Association) these opportunities are extended to learners of all ages within
our community. |

|
 |
At Holyrood we provide students with a
rich, varied and relevant curriculum which builds upon their learning in
primary school. Extensive liaison takes place with our partner primary
schools, and together we take great care in placing each student in a
multi-ability tutor group. Holyrood Community School provides a flexible,
dynamic and exciting learning environment for all our students. Well
qualified and experienced staff teach in specialist accommodation with
excellent resources. A dedicated team of support staff work alongside
teachers to support each student's learning, ensuring an emphasis on
progress and appropriate high standards. |
|
Holyrood students enjoy academic success and the school has a record of
high achievement with students of all interests and abilities. All our
students gain GCSE and other nationally recognised qualifications. The
majority of Year 11 students each gain between five and nine higher passes
at GCSE, and typically 98% of our Sixth Form 'A' level students pass in up
to four subjects enabling them to take up university places of their choice
or gain posts in their chosen career areas.
|
| Each student takes
part in the 'Personal, Social and Health Education' programme (PSHE) which
helps to ensure our students develop as successful and healthy individuals
and as informed and responsible members of the community. Members of the
local community from all walks of life contribute to the programme, making
it varied, stimulating and relevant to the lives of our students. |
 |
 |
In Key Stage 3 our learning programmes include the full range of
National Curriculum subjects including Information Communication Technology
(ICT), a Modern Foreign Language (French or German) and Drama. Where
appropriate our students are also able to study a second Modern Foreign
Language. |
| In Key Stage
4 students enjoy a greater choice in the courses they follow. In
addition to National Curriculum subjects we are able to offer a broad range
of courses leading to a variety of nationally recognised qualifications
including GCSE, Youth Award Scheme, AS and Vocational GCSE's. There is clear
progression to further study in the Sixth Form Centre from these courses.
This range of provision is only possible because we cater for students
throughout the 14-19 age range, and this enables Holyrood to provide for the
full variety of student interests and career aspirations. |
