Global Citizenship is set to move up a notch at Holyrood
following the awarding of a ‘Global Citizenship project Grant’ from the
Department for International Development (DFID). Every year schools with a
partner school in the southern hemisphere can apply for a grant to develop joint
curriculum projects with a global dimension. The aim is to promote mutual
understanding of such areas as global warming, health issues and conflict
resolution and to encourage students from both schools to take action. To this
end, Holyrood has already started working with its partner school, Green Valley
in Chennai, India. In September, the Director of the school and two teachers
will be visiting Holyrood to plan further for this exciting and vital aspect of
the curriculum.
