NEWS FROM THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT

EXAM SUCCESS!

Congratulations to all our exam students who performed superbly well.

Out of the 108 students who sat the GCSE examinations, an incredible 39 scored A or A*! The department ended up as the highest ranked school in Somerset for students exceeding their expected grades. All the department wish to thank the students who helped achieve this.

Did you know - The word ‘Doolally’ comes from India. British troops about to be sent home were sent to Deolali camp. The long periods of boredom waiting for a ship, made men feel deranged and gave us the word we use today!

Did you know - THE SHORTEST WAR ON RECORD LASTED ONLY 38 MINUTES WHEN ZANZIBAR SURRENDERED TO

BRITAIN IN 1896!

GREAT WAR VISIT

The visit for 2008 is organised and Year 9 students will need to be quick off the mark to secure a place on this truly fascinating visit.

Letters should already have been sent home!

THE FINAL WORD…..

”I’m bored with it all!” ~~ The last words of Winston Churchill before slipping into a coma. He died nine days later.
