NEWS
FROM THE SCHOOL SPORTS CO-ORDINATOR
A positive start to the
year so far with the majority of students wearing smart PE kit. Could
students who have outgrown some items of kit, including swimming kit, please
replace it as a matter of urgency. If you would like to donate your old kit
to school the PE department would very much appreciate it.
We have a busy fixture
schedule for both boys and girls this term with leagues, festival
tournaments and County cup games, together with sports clubs running every
lunchtime (see fixtures list and extra-curricular activities list)
GCSE PE -
After a very successful
cohort of students gaining qualifications this summer - 60% A* - C pass
rate, we have high expectations of students currently studying the course.
The Year 11 students will be offered a fantastic opportunity to attend a
GCSE conference in Bristol in January to help support their studies and
revision. The new Year 10 students are enthusiastic and have settled into
the course well. Please be aware of the importance of playing for teams and
at clubs to improve quality of your performance. This is a must for
success on this course. All GCSE students are encouraged to help out at
clubs for the younger students to expand knowledge of rules and improve
officiating and coaching skills. Students have been issued with letters to
purchase T-shirts ‘ exclusive’ to GCSE PE students. Please return orders
and payments promptly.
Sports Captains -
Tutor groups are
currently selecting Captains and Vice Captains to take an all important role
in promoting participation in inter-tutor competitions . Let’s hope the
selected students can do as good a job as last year’s representatives!
‘A’ Level -
Congratulations to the ‘A2’
students who were successful this year and have gone on to study Sports
Journalism and Sports Science at University. Good luck in the future. The
‘AS’ results were pleasing, and the new intake into Year 12 is a promising
group. ‘A’ Level students should all be playing at club level in at least
one sport and also volunteering help at clubs in school would be beneficial
to all involved.
