Firstly hearty
congratulations to our Year 11’s, who achieved excellent results in their RS
GCSEs. The percentage of A-C’s increased to 59%. This represents a lot of
hard work from students and from staff. We are delighted. Well done.
A warm welcome to Mr
Prescott and Mrs Chape, who join the department this term. Mr. Prescott is
covering Mrs Selway’s maternity cover. She has had a bouncing baby boy,
Matthew, and we wish them well. Mrs Chape has joined the department
teaching Key Stage 4 RS, GCSE and Integrated Humanities.
Year 7 students are
exploring Ultimate Questions this half term and grappling with the BIG
issues in life such ‘Is there life after death?’ and ‘Why are we here?’
Year 8 students are working
on a project in which they submit plans for the conversion of an empty
building in Chard to become a building for use by Sikhs. The best of those
submitted will be judged by a member of the Town Council and the winners
will be displayed in the Guildhall.
Year 9 students have been
asked to write a letter to Raja, a young Muslim girl, whose family are
moving to the UK and so they will be exploring Muslim beliefs and practices.
Year 10 students are
getting to grips with their new course and have started by exploring the
topic of Marriage and Family Life. It is planned that we will host visiting
speakers which will enrich their learning.
Year 11 students are
exploring Matters of Life and Death, in which they tackle issues such as
abortion and euthanasia, prior to revision for their mock GCSE in December.
All in all it’s a very
exciting time in RS
