YEAR 8 NEWS

A keen group of students have been working hard to develop their own web pages, reporting school events and covering subjects of interest to others in their age group. Follow the link to browse; it is all their own work.

Recycling Club

Congratulations to Mr Hoskyns and his team at the recycling club. It has been impressive to see how many Year 8 students have taken this commitment so seriously, giving up lunchtimes to make collections. This initiative has made a huge difference to how we are dealing with waste at Holyrood.

The Web Club

The Web Club has pasted their first instalment on the web. Go to 'Year Group' entries on the Holyrood Web site and you should be able to reach their work through the link on the Year 8 page. Congratulations to the sustained hard work of this group and I look forward to the next instalment soon.

Democracy Day

Around 10 students took part in a Democracy Day recently, in which they were praised for demonstrating themselves to be articulate in debating skills and maturity in thought.

Year 8 Assessments

Please encourage your son or daughter to revise for these assessments which start on the 25 February, following guidance given by their teachers. Additional preparation can be made simply with a good nights sleep and a decent breakfast to keep them going through the morning.

Cardiff

At the time of writing we have a full schedule for our trip to Cardiff, including visits to Cardiff Castle, Techniquest, The Big Pit, The Welsh Assembly, Bowling and Llancaiach Fawr Manor (which has it's own ghost web cam if you want to check it out on the web).  We will be staying at Cardiff University and hope that as many Year 8 students as possible will come with us. This is traditionally a highlight in most students school career, and something they still enjoy talking about in Year 11.

Uniform and Equipment

Some pencil cases are looking a little sparse now that we are mid-way through the year. Please can you ensure that your son or daughter comes to school properly equipped.  Can I remind parents that the school uniform policy requires black school shoes not trainers or trainer type shoes or boots.

PSHE

Next half term we will be looking at dealing ‘Peer Pressure’ and the influence of alcohol.

Have a good half term.
