YEAR 9 NEWS

SATS

This term has seen students becoming much more focussed on their studies as they realise that the time left for ensuring they have maximum information for their forth -coming SATs is fast diminishing. Indeed the Science department are just about to launch their SATs mocks in the next week. As parents you supply the vital link between school and home studies and your help in monitoring your child’s homework and assisting with revision is greatly appreciated and vital to your child’s success.

Subject Options

Another milestone in your child’s school career will soon be upon us, the time of choosing which subject options your child will wish to study to GCSE level. Shortly we will be holding option talks and launching the options booklet along with an information evening. However you may wish to start chatting through the likely options with your child, and guiding him or her to choose wisely, and because they feel that the subject is one that they will enjoy studying in greater depth.  A broad balanced choice is important so that future career options are not tied down. More of that after half term.

Student watched a presentation about option choices and planning for the future. The presentation was sponsored by Connexions with whom we work closely at school, and detailed the wide variety of choices available and gave key tips on how to choose options according to the way a student learns best. It was presented with a great deal of humour which the students appreciated. There will be more careers based work to follow in PSHE after half term.

PSHE

PSHE this half term has been based around making choices  to ensure that students do not find themselves in a situation that prevents them from furthering their education, and making the most of their teenage years . A group called Groovy chicks has  been working alongside many of  the students, whilst the remaining students have been following a similar route for discussion.

As always please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have concerns or need information.
